Hiding your feelings? Stuffing them down inside so nobody can see? I know a woman going through an indescribably difficult time in her life who is stuffing her feelings inside her. Her face, her words, her house, her attitude, her very life are all very carefully composed and put together whereby nobody at first glance would have even the remotest idea something was the matter. She is not alone, of course. Many, many people try to tuck their feelings down deep below and keep them behind closed doors so to speak. And each and everyone who does this is missing a vitally important truth.
God did not create us to hide our hurts and hardships, our aches and pains, our tears and troubles, our struggles and feelings, etc. God created us to have an intimate relationship with Him through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and in His death and resurrection and through a life devoted to Him. And God created us to have loving intimate relationships with others.
God wants us to pour out our hearts to Him and to receive His love, comfort, care, healing, wisdom, strength, etc. God also wants us to share our hearts with others who can love us, encourage us, listen to us, pray for us, help and support us, and be there for and with us. And He wants us to love others in the same way.
If you are stuffing your feelings inside, I encourage you with all my heart to pray to God and pour out your heart to Him. And I encourage you exceedingly to share your heart with others and receive from God and others all He has for you as you move forward in life.
“My soul, wait silently for God alone, For my expectation is from Him. He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory; The rock of my strength, And my refuge, is in God. Trust in Him at all times, you people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us…” Psalms 62:5-8 NKJV
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NKJV
“This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” John 15:12-13 NKJV
“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2 NKJV
“Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:11 NKJV
