I Didn’t Say Thank You

I was going through my morning routine of caring for my beloved handicapped ministry doggies when in my usual mind meanderings I realized I had not truly thanked the Lord for something He had done the day before.

I had found myself falling headlong onto the pavement in front of a store. Don’t ask. I don’t know exactly what I did. Somehow I tripped on the curb I guess. Needless to say, my entire body went flying forward in a horizontal position – not a good thing with pavement as the final destination. Not especially when I have osteoporosis and need to be careful not to injure my bones.

Though the flying and falling came totally unexpectedly, my hands went out so quickly that I was able to fall on my feet and hands rather than on my full body. The fall was cushioned, so to speak. What could have been horrendous turned out to be perfectly fine albeit embarrassing if anyone happened to be watching. My hands I landed on? Perfectly fine. Everything, perfectly fine. I stood up and continued with my day. Not thanking the Lord the way I could and should have done, not to my recollection anyway.

How many times in our lives do you suppose does the Lord bless us in an infinite number of ways and do we neglect to acknowledge Him, thank Him, praise Him, and give Him the glory? How often do we take Him and His blessings for granted, do we neglect to even notice His blessings, do we praise ourselves or others instead of Him, and/or do we simply hurry forward with our lives forgetting about the Lord, His care, His goodness, His greatness, His magnificence, etc. as He manifests His love, grace, mercy, kindness, beauty, power, strength, healing, sovereignty, lordship, and glory in all sorts of ways?

Oh, how far short I fall. No pun intended. Forever wouldn’t be enough to thank the Lord for all He has done in my life, is doing, and still is yet to do. Oh, how wonderful, how magnificent, how amazing, how beautiful, how blessed, how infinitely marvelous is the Lord God almighty!

Father, forgive us for every time we ever neglect for whatever reason to thank you for all that you are, all you have done and are doing and will do, and for every single reason you are worthy and deserving of our love, praise, honor, thanksgiving, and rejoicing! Give us reminders, please Lord. Not that we should need them. But we in our flesh fall so very far short, dear Father. How can we ever thank you enough for every one of your blessings most especially for you and for a forever relationship with you we can only have through repentance and faith in you Jesus as Lord and in your death and resurrection when we truly turn from a lifestyle of sin to you as Lord? To faithfully follow you now and forever.  Yes, Lord, you are our number one gift. Our absolutely best blessing. And then on and on your blessings go. And on and on our thankfulness should go. May praise fill our hearts, may praise fill our mouths, and may we not merely thank you, dear Father, but may we express our thanksgiving to you and for you to others that they through our praise may be drawn to you, dear Lord. AMEN!
