“Be kind,” the Holy Spirit spoke to my heart.
“I don’t feel like being kind,” I replied.
I was waiting on hold for another customer service representative to help me after the first one had not been able to help because evidently I had called the wrong department. I felt impatient, antsy, irritated, and not in the mood for waiting. Ugh. I was NOT in a godly space!
Praise God, when someone got on the phone to help me, I was kind.
Being kind should not be about how we feel, what we want, if we’re in the mood to be kind, how we are treated, if we are getting what we want or not, etc.
Kindness should be about the Lord Jesus Christ, about obeying God’s greatest command to love others, about being kind as God in the Bible tells us to be, and about producing the fruit of the Holy Spirit who lives inside His followers.
Whether or not you feel like being kind, BE KIND!
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.” Galatians 5:22-23 NKJV
“Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.” Colossians 3:12-13 NKJV
“And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.” Ephesians 4:30-32 NKJV
