Sometimes the devil tries to convince us that something or someone from our past was unbelievably amazingly awesomely fantastic so we go running back to what or to whom God does not want us to return. The devil tries to get us to erase from our minds what was unhealthy, unwise, ungodly, unholy, etc. He tries to get us to turn away from God and His will for us going forward and to go running back into the past where God does not want us to be.
The Israelites on the way to the Promised Land wanted to go back to Egypt despite how bad their bondage had been there because they craved the familiarity of it and felt it would be better than following God into their unknown future. Rather than trust God and His will for them going forward, they longed to go back into a place that had been terrible.
Please be careful. Don’t fall for the devil’s deception. Humble yourself before God almighty, pray, listen for the voice of the Holy Spirit speaking to your heart in line with the Bible, get godly counsel as the Lord leads you from His followers, and follow the Lord Jesus Christ as His Holy Spirit leads you forth!
“…And in their hearts they turned back to Egypt,” Acts 7:39 NKJV
“Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:13-14 NKJV
