I Stopped Planning My Life
Are you a planner? Have your life planned out? A 5-year plan? 10-year plan? Retirement plan? Career plan for the next decade? Planned what the next 6 months will look like? Planned your vacations for the next few years? Written your plans down on paper? On your computer? Tucked it away in your mind? Mulled it over and again and have it all straight now? Figured it all out? What your future will look like? What you will do with your life from now forward?
Friend, I stopped planning my life. I was pridefully and selfishly planning it according to my wishes, ways, and wants because I believed it was my life, I had to figure it all out, I knew what was best, and of course I had to plan my life based on how to please myself, be happy, feel fulfilled, be satisfied, and, oh, yes, in some ways, to look good in others’ eyes. Most of all, I had to do what would make me feel better and feel good.
See the common denominator in all of this? You, you, you. Me, me, me. Us, us, us. What about the Lord God almighty, friend, and what about the fact when we receive Him as Lord and Savior of our lives and are forgiven and promised everlasting life with Him that OUR LIVES ARE NO LONGER OUR OWN? Our lives are HIS! We belong TO HIM. And any and all plans should fall in line with HIS WILL FOR OUR LIVES THAT NOW BELONG TO HIM!
The Lord in His loving mercy led me to surrender my life utterly to Him so I live no longer for myself according to my plans but so I live for Him according to His plans for His purpose for His glory for this life He has given me that is now HIS. Day by day, I learn to put my trust in Him and to be filled with and led by His Spirit in line with His Word who leads me forth according to God’s will for my life for God’s glory.
Please do the same, my friend. We were not created to live for self according to our self-centered plans. We were created to love and worship the Lord forever and to live wholly for Him according to His plan and His purpose for the glory of Christ, AMEN!
Father, we need you! Sometimes we don’t think we do! Or we forget we do! But we need you for every single breath and for everything good and necessary in this life. Lord, please teach us to submit ourselves entirely to you day by day, step by step, breath by breath. Help us to seek you and your will and to live according to your plan. Let us relinquish all selfish plans and choose your plan for our lives.
When we do think of something we feel strongly compelled to do whether now or in the future, let us seek your will in the matter. And let us always choose your will not our own when it doesn’t line up with yours. Help us to live for you – the one who died on the cross to pay our sin penalty and was raised from the dead! Lord and Savior! We need you, oh, yes, we need you! Even when we’re holding on for dear life to the plan we feel is best, if it’s not your will, help us let go. Your will be done in our lives! Now and always, AMEN!
