Insatiable Hunger

Have you ever loved something or someone so much you literally feel like you will never be able to get enough of that thing or that person? Like your hunger will never be met and your thirst never quenched and your longing never satisfied and your desire never fulfilled? Are you familiar with the word insatiable? This is what I’m writing of. When we crave and yearn for something or someone so much only to find nothing will ever measure up to the degree of craving and yearning we have! But then, there is a different kind of insatiable desire with which I am well familiar and wonder if you are also. Sometimes we hunger and thirst for something so exceedingly and are in fact blessed with having that hunger and thirst met only to find that the satisfaction of our hunger and thirst makes us even hungrier and thirstier for more of what we had such an indescribable appetite for in the first place! Can you relate?

I have an insatiable hunger and thirst and passion and zeal and longing for Jesus and for more of Him and for His Spirit living in me and for more of His Spirit and for the Bible and for more of the Bible and for His will for my life and for more of His will for my life and for telling others about Him and for telling even more people about Him that I simply can’t get enough of Jesus! Each time I feel satisfied and excited and thrilled at that feeling of being satisfied, I want more and more of Jesus!

I ache beyond imagination to grow closer to Him, to love and honor and serve and adore and praise and worship and revere and fear and obey and glorify God and to help others to do the same. And the Lord DOES satisfy my longing and fulfill my desire for Him and for all of this. But the more I have of Jesus, the more I want of Jesus! And the more I tell people about Jesus, the more I want to tell people about Jesus!

Some people I meet call me “religious”. I am not religious in the least. I have no interest in human-made religious traditions. Jesus came hard against the religious people in His day for being pridefully caught up in appearances and in self-righteousness and made clear God in heaven is seeking people who “…will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him (John 4:23).” Worshiping God almighty in spirit and truth is borne of REAL LOVE, not man-made traditions. GENUINE LOVE of God for us and SINCERE LOVE of us returned to the Lord! The Lord yearns to be loved and worshiped from the heart – from a heart filled with humility and fear of and reverence and honor and adoration of Him!

I live and breathe to love and worship and glorify God in this way! Do you? The more I chase after Jesus, the more I read the Bible, the more I humble myself and obey the Lord, the more time I spend alone in His presence, praising, worshiping, seeking, hearing, and obeying Him, the more desperate I am to love and worship and glorify Him in spirit and truth. For real!

Is this message about myself? Oh, friend, it is not! The message is for you! And for all those the Lord brings to the well of it to drink of it. To drink of the truth in this message. That we should hunger and thirst more for Jesus than for anything or anyone else in the universe! That we should run after Jesus with all our might! That we should love God almighty passionately, vehemently, zealously, fervently! That we should hunger and thirst for Him and for His Kingdom and for His reign in our lives and for His will for us and for His Spirit and the Bible more than imagination! Unfathomably, yes!

“Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; ‘For YAH, the LORD, is my strength and song; He also has become my salvation.’ ” Therefore with joy you will draw water From the wells of salvation.” Isaiah 12:2-3

Oh, shall we not bring our hunger and thirst to the wells of His salvation? Oh, to His feet where we seat ourselves down as Mary the sister of Martha does in the Bible (Luke 10:38-42) to hear Him! Oh, to cry out to Him for mercy and truth and wisdom and all the blessings He in His lovingkindness will pour onto us and into us and through us! Oh, to take His yoke and learn from Him (Matthew 11:28-30) as He lovingly invites us to do! Oh, to weep over His feet with love and dry our tears with our hair as the sinner woman does in the Bible (Luke 7:36-50)! Oh, to lean back into His embrace and rest our heads trustingly and adoringly on His bosom as the apostle John the beloved does (John 13:23). Oh, to beg Him to show us His glory as Moses cries out to Him (Exodus 33:13-23)! Oh, to fall down on our faces before Him as the elders do in the Bible (Rev. 19:4)! Oh, to throw our hands up in worship of Him as the Lord calls people to lift up “holy hands” to Him (1 Timothy 2:8)! Oh, to plead with Him for mercy and His forgiveness and salvation as the sinner man does who beats upon his breast and can’t even look up at Jesus in his humility concerning his sins and is so utterly desperate for Him (Luke 18:10-14)!

Jesus Himself says the blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness! They will be satisfied, He declares! He says the meek (the humble!) will inherit the earth! He says those who mourn will be comforted! I read long ago a writer who believed the mourning is the mourning over our sins! Matthew 5:3-12. The comfort then is God’s forgiveness which we need to be in fellowship with Him through faith in Christ as Lord!

Oh Jesus, oh Jesus! Oh Jesus! Oh Lord, how we need you! Create in my readers a hunger and thirst for you beyond description. Turn them into your followers so hungry and thirsty for you and your Spirit and your Word and your will for their lives that they spend the rest of their time on this earth chasing after you with a longing beyond measure to love and adore and praise and please and glorify you beyond anything they can fathom!

Satisfy them, oh Lord, and at the same time make them hungry and thirsty all over again for more of you and your Spirit and your Word and your will for their lives! Make them want more and more of you, oh Lord! Cause them to be more and more surrendered to you and more and more devoted to you, my God!

Bring them into your Kingdom and don’t let them ever be lukewarm (Revelation 3:16) about you. May they be totally devoted to you now and forever and ever! Meet their hunger, answer their thirst, satisfy them, but only to make them hungrier and thirstier for you than they have ever been that they may chase after you with wild abandon. Oh, God, answer my cry for them! Answer my cry for me! Answer my cries for us all! For this world! Bring more and more people into your Kingdom! And make us all who are yours, who are in your forever family, who are your children and servants, love and serve and glorify you with every single ounce of our hearts now and forever and ever and evermore, AMEN!

“And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.” John 6:35

We may have more and more hunger, and we may have more and more thirst, for beloved and precious Jesus, but He will satisfy us when we bring our hunger and thirst to Him, oh yes! Hallelujah, hallelujah, blessed be the Lord, blessed be God almighty, hallelujah, glory be to the Lord, oh yes! Amen! Praise, praise, praise the Lord! Amen!

“For He satisfies the longing soul, And fills the hungry soul with goodness.” Psalms 107:96:35
