Come, Hear, & Do!

COME. HEAR. DO. Three seemingly insignificant words until you put them all together in the context of the Lord Jesus Christ and of His very own words in the Bible and of lovingly, humbly, and faithfully following Him!

Please read the following verses:

“Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock. But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great.”” Luke 6:47-49

Jesus tells us that he or she who COMES TO HIM, who HEARS HIM, and who DOES WHAT HE TELLS US TO DO is like a house built on a ROCK as its foundation rather than having no foundation at all (or the foundation of sand in the verses at the end of this message!). The house on the ROCK foundation can hold up against the most terrible storms! Yes, even “VEHEMENT” ones as described in the verses above!

Friend, Jesus is to be our ROCK. He is to be the FOUNDATION of our lives. We are to BELIEVE in Him as Lord, to TRUST in Him as Lord, to LOOK to Him as Lord, to TURN to Him as Lord, to LOVE & HONOR Him as Lord, to SERVE Him as Lord, to GLORIFY Him as Lord, to PRAISE & WORSHIP Him as Lord, to MAGNIFY Him as Lord, to FOLLOW Him as Lord! And, in so doing, we are to COME TO HIM, to HEAR HIM, and to OBEY Him as LORD!

We are not to COME to Jesus just once mind you when we repent and commit our lives to Him. Nor are we to just COME to Jesus in fellowship with other Christ followers as we seek and praise God and learn of Him and worship Him together. Also, vitally importantly, we are to COME away from the busyness and responsibilities of our everyday lives to spend time alone with Him in His glorious presence! Praying, reading the Bible, adoring Him, singing to Him, seeking Him, praising Him, and HEARING Him speak to us through the Bible and also speak to us by His Spirit to our hearts personally in line with the Bible. What are we to do with what we HEAR from the Lord? Learn, grow, be transformed by Him, and SO WHAT HE SAYS. In other words, OBEY HIM!

In COMING to the Lord, HEARING the Lord, and DOING what He tells us, in being solidly founded in this way on the rock that is Jesus, we can stand strong in Jesus against the storms of this life!

So let us COME! So let us HEAR! So let us DO! For the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, oh yes!

Please note in a different book of the Bible these verses about the house being built on the rock that is Christ. In this version, one house is built on the rock. One on the sand. The only one that stands? The one founded on the rock. The significance for us? The one who stands on Christ prevails in the strongest of the storms of this life! Oh, hallelujah!

“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.” Matthew 7:24-27
