Keep Your Eyes Fixed on Me!

Keep your eyes fixed on me!

I heard the words so clearly. But it was not an audible voice. I knew whose voice it was. The Holy Spirit of God who lives inside believers in the Lord Jesus Christ was speaking to my heart. Reminding me of a vital truth for us all.

I cannot tell you how many times in the past couple of years God has used the Bible, spoken to my heart by His Holy Spirit, and used other Jesus followers to drill into me this crucial truth. This absolute necessity. This unfathomably important matter.

That believers in Jesus are to learn to fix our focus on Jesus and the Bible and to return our focus to Him and the Bible when we allow our focus to fall elsewhere.

We are to fix, set, secure, anchor, etc. our eyes, our hearts, our ears, our very lives upon Jesus the Christ!

Jesus is to be our highest priority, first love, number one, our Lord, God, Savior, King, ruler, master, healer, comforter, advocate, counselor, friend, guide, wisdom-giver, provider, teacher, deliverer, and so very much more.

Nothing and nobody in our lives is ever to be a higher priority than the Lord.

Keeping our gaze on God, beholding the Lord Jesus, focusing our attention on Him and His Word, looking to Him, raising Jesus up above everything and everyone else in our hearts, this is all utterly and wonderfully necessary in believing in Jesus, living in obedience to Jesus, following Jesus, being totally devoted to Jesus, living for Jesus, belonging to Jesus, being forever with Jesus!

What are some ways we can focus upon the Lord? That we can fix our hearts, eyes, ears, our very lives upon Him?

Praying to Him, seeking Him, crying out to Him, pouring our hearts out to Him, spending time with Him, reading the Bible, praising Him, worshiping Him, singing to Him, thinking about Him, meditating on the Bible, speaking to others about Him, hearing biblically sound preaching about Him, listening to Him speak to our hearts by His Holy Spirit in line with the Bible, confessing our sin and seeking His forgiveness, serving Him, honoring Him, enjoying His blessings to us and acknowledging and thanking Him as we do, feeling and rejoicing in His presence, etc.

Keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, focusing on the Lord and the Bible, living in total devotion to God, this not only blesses God and brings Him praise, honor, pleasure, joy, and glory. We are so infinitely blessed in the process as we do not get caught up in the cold and distant throes of religious traditions and activity.

But instead we engage in and experience the awesomeness and amazingness and wondrousness of an intimate forever relationship with the Lord of Lords, King of Kings, Savior of the world, Jesus the Christ, forever God! Amen!

Oh, may our hearts be fixed upon the Lord!

May our eyes behold His beauty and glory and majesty!

I love how King David prays to God concerning his son Solomon ultimately building the Lord His temple.

“O LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our fathers, keep this forever in the intent of the thoughts of the heart of Your people, and fix their heart toward You.” 1 Chronicles 29:18 NKJV

Here are some more encouraging Bible verses!

“You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.” Isaiah 26:3 NKJV

“The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” John 1:29 NKJV

“Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.” Colossians 3:2 NKJV

“One thing I have desired of the LORD, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD All the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the LORD, And to inquire in His temple.” Psalms 27:4 NKJV
