I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”” Acts 20:35

The Lord’s greatest commands are to love Him with all our hearts and to love others as ourselves, and part of this means we are to be givers! The scripture above shows us it is better to give than to receive, but we also need to be careful to have what the Lord wants us to give. And, to that end, we need to be receivers also. How so?

The greatest of anything we can ever give to others is the love of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Gospel message to help people have a forever relationship with the Lord rather than spend eternity in hell and the lake of fire, help and encouragement in following Jesus day by day, and whatever the Lord places in our hearts and hands to share with others!

But how can we give what we have not first received? I started off in ministry not being able to sufficiently give what I needed to give because I was operating most of the time from the flesh rather than from a rock solid personal relationship with Christ. I needed to receive from Jesus to give of Jesus!

I have since learned spending time alone with Jesus, being refreshed in His presence and filled over and again with His Spirit, reading the Bible, being conformed by the Spirit of Christ to Christ, growing in God’s image, experiencing and enjoying intimacy with Christ, this time and place and blessedness of communing with Christ, this, friend, is the birthplace of what I receive from the Lord to give unto others. Christ and more and more of Christ must we receive that we may give to the world around us more and more of the Lord Jesus Christ, yes!

How is your love life with Christ? Is He your first love? Greatest desire? Are you spending time with Him and in the Bible daily?
