“And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit,” Ephesians 5:18……..
“I get drained,” a beautiful young woman doing ministry work in New York City for a season told me one day…..
Oh, how I could understand. I have done ministry work in a number of cities now, but nowhere have I experienced such a draining of energy as I do in New York City.
And, where there is a draining, there needs to be a filling. A re-filling. A pouring into me so that Christ can be poured out of me. That filling, friend, is a gushing abundant life-giving blessed waterfall of love, mercy, grace, peace, hope, comfort, Truth, refreshing, and so very much more that comes into Christ’s followers from the Spirit of Christ who lives inside His followers.
We are sealed with the Spirit of Christ when we receive Christ as Lord when we turn from our sins and believe in Him as Lord who died to pay our sin penalty and was raised from the dead as we genuinely turn our lives over to God and His ways. At that time, the Spirit of God comes to live inside us. But that’s just a beginning of a forever journey with Christ! Of forever fellowship with the Lord!
And the Lord makes abundantly clear in the Bible that there can be subsequent fillings and re-fillings of the Holy Spirit that enable Christ’s followers to go out and do His work as His beloved servants.
Oh Father, turn people worldwide to you in repentance and in faith in you as Lord. Bring revival and awakening around the globe, dear and most precious Lord! And oh, Lord, teach your children to come to you over and again, day by day, to spend time with you, to be in your presence, to study your Word, to learn of you and from you, dear Jesus, to be changed by you into the men and women you desire that we be, and oh, Lord, fill us again and again and forevermore with your Spirit, with more and more of your Holy Spirit, dear God, as you send us forth to tell the world about you with the love of Jesus, oh Lord, yes! AMEN!
