“Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.” Romans 8:26-27……….
“And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit,” Ephesians 5:18
Some time ago I was pretty much devastated to discover that despite having an exceeding love for and devotion to the Lord, the prayer part of my life following Christ felt totally dry. Brittle. Stale. Flat. Almost dead but not quite there. Just not like it was really going anywhere. I found myself praying the same thing for people over and again. One quick prayer for whomever it was with whatever need that person had. And on it went. I felt stagnant. So were my prayers. I couldn’t stand it, but I didn’t know how to change my prayer lifer. Little did I know I didn’t have to. The Lord did it for me, and here’s how.
The more time I’ve spent alone with the Lord, the more I’ve sought Him, the more I’ve prayed, the more I’ve read the Bible, the deeper I’ve gone in the Bible, the more I’ve cried out to God, the more I’ve poured out my heart to Him, the more I’ve yielded myself to Him, the more I’ve obeyed Him, the closer I’ve gotten to Him and Him to me, the more I’ve begged Him for the filling and re-filling of His Spirit who lives inside His followers, the more I’ve fasted different foods and different things from my life for periods of time as I prayed and sought Him, the more I’ve listened, the more I’ve hungered and thirsted to love, please, honor, praise, and adore Him, the more the Lord has changed me including how I pray.
The more I deny self, the more I surrender to Christ living in and through me, the more I find myself submitting to the Spirit of God as He gives me the matters and people and things to pray about right down to the heart to pray even down to tears coming forth as I pray with all my might.
Turn from your sins, believe Jesus is Lord and died on the cross to pay your sin penalty and was raised from the dead, turn your heart and life over to God and His ways, receive the gift of the Spirit of God and pray for the Lord to fill you over and again with more of His Spirit, spend time alone with God and the Bible daily, fast how and when the Lord so leads you, live to love and honor and obey God almighty in Christ, and let the Spirit of God lead you in prayer as Jesus Himself lives in and through you, HALLELUJAH, yes, praise the Lord, YES! AMEN!
