THROW IT AWAY

“And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.” 1 John 2:17

“Throw it away,” the Spirit of God said simply, clearly, and firmly to my heart. About something He wanted me to toss in the trash.

Hmm. Maybe? Possibly? I could. Or not. Should I? Or shouldn’t I?

Yes, it’s appalling. When God tells us to throw something away, should there be any debate? Should we consider our wishes, ways, and wants? Or should we consider JESUS CHRIST IS LORD and we are to LIVE FOR HIM?

Sometimes the Lord tells us to throw away something we are totally ready to let go. Other times, we desperately want to hold on. Sometimes we simply feel like picking a fight. Or whatever. Seriously. It’s amazing how capable we are in one breath of saying, “I believe Jesus Christ is Lord.” And in the next breath saying:

“No way! I will NOT throw that away.” Or, “let me think about it.”

Some people are hoarders. They hold onto everything. Others pick and choose. Some keep barely anything around. Minimalists, I believe they’re called.

Sometimes God tells us to throw away wicked thoughts. Bad relationships. Unwise decisions. Wrong jobs. Even good stuff. Nothing wrong with the stuff, but it’s simply not His will.

Bottom line? My heart’s cry is to have no resistance to the Lord – ever. To be totally submitted to Him. To not question. To have in my heart something like this:

“Yes, Jesus.”

Yes, Lord.

And in my actions?

Obedience.

For those who love Jesus obey Him. And when He says throw it away, there should be no question. If we’re clear it’s the Lord speaking, and He only and always speaks in line with the Bible, then we know what to do.

Love Him.

And obey. For the glory of Christ, AMEN!
