“in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” 1 Thess. 5:18……

“I will praise You with my whole heart;” Psalm 138:1……..

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.” James 1:17………

I just came in from the hot, hot, hot New York City outdoors. It’s not just any old hot. Hot in a city like this one means super tall buildings, smells and sweat and heat all exacerbated, too many bodies all jammed together walking down hot sidewalks, the heat feeling like it gets trapped in place with all the gargantuan buildings around. Okay, in all honesty, I’m in a part of the city where the buildings aren’t as tall. But you get the point. So know what happened when I came indoors?

I felt thankful. For the fan blowing air right where I sit writing. For the window AC unit which even when I keep it at a high temperature to save money still manages to cool things off just enough. So that’s when it came to me. How I’ve become thankful for all that I used to take for granted. Which was everything. I was almost never thankful for so much of my life. Just spoiled. Expecting. Taking for granted. Feeling entitled. Selfish. For so long, not believing God existed. Then, even when I came to believe in Jesus Christ as Lord, complaining and being negative more than anything else for so long.

Today I am thankful, so thankful. For the little stuff. The huge things. And everything in between. Most of all for the Lord Jesus Christ and a forever relationship with Him through believing in Him as Lord whereby I live for Him now according to His ways.

Know what comes to mind when I think of thanksgiving? That telling God thank you is so vitally important, yes. Praising Him is exceedingly important and should be ongoing, absolutely. But it’s not just about telling God thank you and praising Him and telling others how amazing He is. It’s about the state of our hearts. It’s about FEELING thankful. It’s about BEING thankful. It’s about ABIDING in a state of thanksgiving. It’s about an ATTITUDE of THANKSGIVING.

Let us express our thanksgiving to God each and every day, yes! But let this be an outward manifestation of an inward state of feeling and being and abiding in and having an attitude of everyday thanksgiving!

Oh, praise the Lord! Be ever thankful to the Lord in your heart – and with your mouth and in your actions!
