When NOT to Act….
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.” James 1:5-6
Being on the road for Jesus full-time with 5 special needs doggies as a 51-year-old woman doing streets ministry and writing & publishing Gospel tracts, devotionals, and books comes with its challenges like anything in life which in many cases is how hard and how often the devil comes at me trying to stop me from passionately and fervently fulfilling God’s calling for my life.
Example? Countless times in the 2 years I’ve been on the road for Jesus I’ve faced uncomfortable, yucky, icky, dark, demonic, evil, and even dangerous and unsafe situations and people. My first instinct almost every time has been to load up my ancient car with my dogs and stuff and run away as fast as I can.
But each time instead I have sought the wisdom of the Lord to see if this is in fact His will for me. And I have sought the prayer of others to pray me through. The Lord has given me wisdom every time I have needed it and the strength to do whatever He has desired for me to do. Sometimes He has led me out of a situation and away from someone. Other times He has kept me right where I am and protected me.
There has been one constant in all of this, and herein lies the message I share with you here. We should NOT base our decisions in life on our emotions but instead base our decisions on the Lord Jesus Christ and the Bible. We should base our decisions on wisdom from above. Wisdom from God almighty. Not on self. On Christ.
Do you see the scriptures above? The Lord is NOT showing us we should ask our emotions for wisdom. Our emotions can be like a roller coaster, and they may or may not line up with God’s will in a matter. For instance, when I am in a panic, or I am grieving over something or someone, or I am so exhausted I feel like I can’t even make a decision, I am at high risk of doing something not in line with the Lord’s wisdom.
Friend, when NOT to act? When it’s your flesh and emotions trying to rule and reign in your life. Jesus Christ is forever LORD. We are to submit our hearts and lives utterly to Him. We need to seek God in all things and follow Him as He leads us in line with HIS WILL for HIS GLORY. Emotions need to get off the throne of our lives and make way for the only one who belongs on the throne now and forever. Jesus Christ!
