WHEN THE HELPER IS HURTING ……..

“I will lift up my eyes to the hills—
From whence comes my help?
My help comes from the Lord,
Who made heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:1-2 ……….

“God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1

““If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.” John 14:15-18

We’re called to love, help, serve, and give, and some of us tend to do so to extremes. Sometimes we find as we’re striving to follow the Lord’s leading in helping others that we’re the ones hurting and in need of help. So what do we do? Do we put on a happy face, pretend everything is okay, shove our struggles under the rug, and press on? Do we compose ourselves and show the world how strong we are and simply move forward helping others? Or do we need to take some time ourselves to receive the help we need? And who will help us if we’re so used to doing the helping?

Pride might tell us we need to keep it all together, keep up appearances, and carry on. But truly we need to humble ourselves, cry out to the Lord for the love, help, strength, grace, wisdom, comfort, compassion, direction, and mercy we need – and let our fellow Christ followers know we could use some helping hearts and hands to include love, prayer, and encouragement!

The greatest helper in the universe is the Spirit of God who lives inside His followers, and the Lord blesses us, too, with His worldwide body of followers!

Thank you Lord for helping us, and thank you for using us to help others! To you, dear Father, be the glory, AMEN!
