“Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.” Mt. 16:24-25………..
“I don’t feel like talking to that person,” I think to myself every once in a while…………
Maybe someone I know. Maybe someone close to me. Maybe a stranger. My flesh speaks strongly to me. “Don’t stop to talk to that person! Don’t reach out to that person! Don’t listen to that person! You have better things to do! You’re tired! You’ve got enough to do already! That person is mean! That person will talk your head off! That person isn’t going to be easy to minister to.” And on and on speaks my flesh.
Then the Spirit of Christ compels me. With love. With HIS LOVE. Jesus who died on the cross to pay our sin penalty and was raised from the dead, HIS SPIRIT reminds me His greatest commands are to LOVE HIM with all our hearts and to LOVE OTHERS as ourselves.
Serving Jesus, friend, is NOT about bowing down to the cries and cares and concerns of the flesh. It’s about DENYING self, taking up our little crosses, and FOLLOWING JESUS. And when His Spirit leads us to love and serve someone else, no matter what our flesh has to say about it, we need to humble ourselves and IN THE LOVE OF CHRIST serve Jesus and serve that person FOR THE GLORY OF GOD, yes!
