I honestly think I must have been one of the most negative people who ever walked the face of this earth. Negative, complaining, self-pitying, drama-ridden, sickeningly self-centered, on and on it went. The Lord has been transforming me for years now. Now I can say I’m Miss Positivity and never fall back into that horrible sin, right? WRONG! I do sometimes fall when I’m not careful, and now the sin I once didn’t care about because I was so exceedingly self-consumed and loved to justify and excuse my wrongdoing grieves me and breaks my heart. Here is why.
I love the Lord more than anything or anyone in the universe, I am totally devoted to Him, and it breaks my heart to think how I break His heart when I fall back into my old fleshly worldly ways. But friend, this is not all.
The Lord’s greatest commands are to love Him with all our hearts – and to love others as ourselves. We who believe in Jesus Christ as Lord are to LOVE OTHERS and to HELP OTHERS to find and follow Jesus. We are to be lights shining in an ever-darkening world pointing people to Jesus who is Lord, who died on the cross to pay our sin penalty and was raised from the dead, and who is the only way to everlasting life.
Know what negativity does? It blocks the light of Christ in those of us who follow Him from shining! The brightness fades. It dims. It can look like it’s all but extinguished.
When you and I fall back into our sinful ways whether into negativity or any other sin for that matter, WE MUST REPENT! Turn back to God! Come out of the dark! Return to the light of this world! Follow Him! Let our lights shine for all to see the light and love and mercy and grace and hope and joy of the Lord Jesus Christ!
Dear Lord, forgive us our wickedness! Bring us to repentance whenever we need it! Help us extinguish all negativity and self-centeredness and all sin from our lives! Help us not let our sinfulness extinguish the lights we are to shine to others! Oh, help us God! Help us to die to self and to live for you, oh Lord! AMEN!
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16
“Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”” John 8:12
“For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.” Romans 8:14
