My Beautiful Mom Testimony

I love my beloved Mom more than imaginable and have an amazingly blessed and beautiful relationship with her though this wasn’t always the case. We all have our stories, don’t we? So do our families. I won’t go into mine here, only to say I’ve had a very painful family situation for a very long time and decided along the way foolishly, wrongly, selfishly, sinfully, and unrighteously that I didn’t need to honor my mother and father because of some things that had happened. I figured God’s commandments, that one anyway, was conditional not unconditional. Conditional on my circumstances, thoughts, feelings, challenges, etc.

Thankfully God in His love and mercy sent me two sisters in Christ one day who by telephone shared testimonies He used to lead me to repentance for breaking His commandment. I sought God’s forgiveness for all the years I hadn’t loved, respected, and honored my parents, have sought their forgiveness, a number of times in fact, and made the decision to do what I should have done all along. Obey God and love and honor my Mom and Dad regardless of how they fell short. And be thankful to the Lord and to my dear parents for the zillions of things my parents did that were loving, generous, giving, good, wonderful, right, etc.

Little did I know God would use my repentance to birth the most wonderful, close, and precious relationship between me and my Mom. Is my Mom perfect? No. Is our relationship perfect? No. Am I perfect? No. But God day by day is teaching me how to humble myself, to love, to be merciful, to serve and give, to honor my Mom, and to be thankful for the relationship I have with her now.

You who are reading this, is there a message in this for you regarding you and your parents? Or maybe you and someone else? Or some other people? God calls us to love and be merciful and to forgive and to give and to serve not contingent on others and what they do and don’t do but contingent on Him and His Word, the Bible.

In all honesty, I believe God gave me the best mother in the world. Call me biased. I am. Biased and blessed. First and foremost for the Lord, for forever with Him through faith in and my life being devoted to Christ, and for a zillion other reasons, very much so including my beautiful, wonderful, marvelous, God-given Mom!
