When you think of someone’s reputation, what comes to mind? What others think of that person, right? Doesn’t this world teach us that it’s important to have a good reputation in the minds of others? Shouldn’t we care about what others think of us and work toward a good reputation in the eyes of this world?
Friend, what matters most is what we look like in the eyes of God! And when it comes to what others think of us, we should desire that they think of us as believing in, following, being devoted and faithful to, living for, honoring, praising, serving, obeying, and glorifying God! We should desire that they think of us as living a godly and righteous life pleasing and honoring to God!
We should desire that they see Christ in us and Christ through us! We should desire that they are influenced and inspired and encouraged by the way we live to live for Christ themselves! But more than anything, our focus concerning our reputation should be that we bring God joy, praise, honor, and glory each and every day of our lives!
Long, long ago there was a man named Josiah who became King at only eight years old! Please consider his reputation when you read this description of him.
“Josiah was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem. And he did what was right in the sight of the LORD, and walked in the ways of his father David; he did not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.” 2 Chronicles 34:1-2
Can the same be said of you and me? May our reputation above all else be one of living humbly, wholly, and heartily for the Lord Jesus Christ, AMEN!
“And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.” Colossians 3:23-24
