I have been eating bananas since I was a child. I am in my 50s now, so that’s a super long time. My favorite foods have changed over time, and suffice it to say peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, chocolate chip peanut butter cookies, and protein smoothies with bananas in them are some of my favorites for now anyway. So I take great delight in finding extra big bananas in the store. I enjoy them most when they ripen into a yummy sweet mush perfect for tossing in the blender I bring with me as I go from hotel to hotel in my life on the road for Jesus. You might not think finding big beautiful bananas in the store is a big deal, but it is to me. And here is why.
The reason is two-fold. First, I love them. Second, I am so extremely thankful to God for them and have spent far too much of my life not being thankful for all the “little things” with which God has blessed me. In my spoiled, take-way-too-much-for-granted years, bananas were something I wouldn’t have even thought to be thankful to God for. But God has humbled me, and I realize now God’s blessings range from tiny to gargantuan but all bear significance such that we should be thankful to God for each and all of them. This may not mean we stop to thank God for every single blessing small and enormous, but we should at the very least be thankful in our hearts to God – for everything with which He blesses us throughout the course of our lives!
