One True Light – Poem for My King

Light wraps around me
Entwining me in a rope
Of honeysuckle sweet rest
Capturing me in its delicate hold
Enfolding me in the warm hug of hope
For I am promised to no longer walk in darkness
Though dark may appear and press in all around
For I walk confidently after the One
Whose hands take mine in their own
And who leads me lovingly down the wide aisle
And through the narrow gate to the altar
Where He makes His face, His ways, known to me
Marrying me to Himself, by faith I am His
As the cross from which He hung
Holds me steady in my heart so humbled
That He my Lord would call me His own
So still I am, at last, as I think of Him
And though I cannot see or touch or feel
My Savior as He leads me on
His light makes all else fade in the background
If only for moments the cares of this life fall into the shadows
Because His light, so magnificent,
Bursts into my heart and illuminates my way
As I place one trembling foot in front of another
Following His footsteps, meekly, I bask
In the glow and tender heat and peace
Of the light of His presence
So like a lullaby is He, my love,
Quieting my soul, rocking me sweetly,
Ever comforting me as He reminds me,
He, light of the world,
Is my light, my shield, my defense,
My hope, so light is He, my dear Jesus

“Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world: he who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” John 8:12 NASB
