When the Holy Spirit of God placed on my heart He wanted me to go sit down on my bed, it would have seemed crazy if it had not been the Lord Jesus Christ leading me.
After all, I had a zillion things to do, loads of stress, and nobody to help with most of it. So would have seemed the worst thing to do would be to stop in my tracks and rest as I sensed the Lord wanted me to do.
When we are overloaded, overwhelmed, stressed to the max, and under great pressure, and have seemingly endless commitments and responsibilities, may seem the best approach is to push forward trying our hardest to address all that lies before us. Certainly we should do that if God leads us to do so.
But sometimes the Lord wants us to draw away from it all, to draw near to Him, to spend time alone with Him, to pour out our hearts to Him, to open the Bible and read it, to cry out to Him in prayer, to seek Him, to hear Him, to receive wisdom, strength, and comfort from Him, to find rest in Him, to hold onto Him like never before, to be transformed by Him, to praise and worship Him, to commune with Him, to enjoy Him, to feel His presence, to experience His love, and to get refreshed in Him.
The world teaches us to keep pushing forward. But sometimes what we need more than anything is time alone with the Lord Jesus Christ before we press on in our lives.
Do you need to draw away from it all and spend time in the presence of God?
Spending time alone with Jesus is something we should do each and every day anyway, but there may be special times when we are feeling totally overwhelmed the Lord might lead us to turn away from it all and to turn upward to Him!
“Hear my cry, O God; Attend to my prayer. From the end of the earth I will cry to You, When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For You have been a shelter for me, A strong tower from the enemy. I will abide in Your tabernacle forever; I will trust in the shelter of Your wings…” Psalms 61:1-4 NKJV
“Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the LORD, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall, But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:28-31 NKJV
