Pushing People Away?

0

Please don’t push away the people God sends to love you, bless you, encourage you, help you, teach you, help you to grow, with whom to enjoy friendship and fellowship, for you to love, bless, encourage, help, teach, help to grow, etc. I used to do this and have seen many others do the same. We may push people altogether out of our lives, keep them from coming into our lives in the first place, allow them in our lives but keep them at an emotional distance, anything at all in an effort to protect ourselves from getting hurt if we’ve been hurt in the past. Anything at all to keep them from getting and staying close to us.

Friend, God created us to love Him with all our hearts and others as ourselves. We were created to be in fellowship with Him and others. All who believe in and follow Jesus Christ as Lord are God’s children, and we are one worldwide family of His followers. We are to be one worldwide fellowship. We are to draw close to God and God to us and to draw close to people and people to us all in the context of the love of the Lord Jesus Christ!

I used to keep God at a distance because I was afraid somehow He would hurt me like people had. And I kept people at a distance in a variety of ways because I was afraid they would hurt me. I figured somehow I could protect myself from being hurt again. I disobeyed God’s commands to love Him with all my heart and to love others as myself because I wasn’t truly letting God and people close to me nor allowing myself to get close to them. This was sin against God and sin against people, and I hurt myself in the process because I was denying myself the most beautiful love in the world which is God’s and denying myself the blessing of the love we humans are to have and share and express one to another.

Please don’t stand at a distance from the Lord or humans, friend. Surrender yourself wholly and forever to the Lord Jesus Christ. Love Him wholeheartedly, and love others. Let Him close. Let them close. Draw close to Him and them. People may hurt us from time to time. They may let us down. They may disappoint us. And reject us. Our hope and expectation need to be in Christ who will never hurt us or let us down.

When we find our fulfillment in Him, when we are complete in Him, when we know and experience His love intimately, then we are best able to handle when people do fall short. We are to love and forgive them regardless. We are to bring our hearts to the Lord for healing. We all fall short at times and need to forgive one another. But we should not let our falls and our past hurts and disappointments stop us from loving and being loved.

We are to walk in the love of the Lord Jesus Christ. His love for us, our love for Him, our love for others, and theirs for us. The way of Christ and of following Him is the way of love.

Love, love, love, my friend. Walk in it. Amen!

Father, please heal the hearts of any readers who are hurting. Any with walls, please help them to take them down. Any afraid, please teach them to rest in your love and to let the fear go. Any isolated, please help them to be in your fellowship and the fellowship of others. Heal brokenness, Lord God. Make my precious readers whole! Restore those needing restoration! Teach us to trust you and your love. Help us to love others and to receive theirs. Help us to find fulfillment in your love and to not expect others to be perfect in their love just as we are not perfect in ours. Please, Lord, teach us the way of your love. Thank you, Lord, for answering my prayer. AMEN!

“That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life— the life was manifested, and we have seen, and bear witness, and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and was manifested to us— that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.” 1 John 1:1-3

“Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.” Ephesians 5:1-2

Are You Making God Happy?

What makes you happy, friend? What makes God happy? Are you living to make yourself happy? Or are you living to make God happy?

My beloved pastor who went on to be with the Lord used to say we need to get the Word [the Bible]into us and the world out of us. In other words, we need as Christ’s followers to stop living according to the world’s ways and learn instead to live according to God’s ways. This world teaches us to be self-centered and to strive for a pleasure-filled life, personal happiness, and self-satisfaction no matter the cost. But God’s great commandment is to love Him with all our hearts and to love others as ourselves, and He teaches us to live for Him not for self no matter the cost to our flesh.

I am sure you know what makes you happy. But do you know, think about, and strive for what makes God happy, pleased, and satisfied? He tells us right in the Bible what pleases and honors Him and what does not!

Friend, is the way you are living the life He has given you making God happy? Do you love Him with all your heart and others as yourself? Do you live to bring Him pleasure, honor, and glory? Do your thoughts, words, and actions bring Him pleasure and praise? Do you seek His forgiveness when you fall short? Are you living for Him and not longer for self?

Please consider all this, and please make any and all necessary changes!

Father, teach us you ways and give us the desire, willingness, strength, wisdom, and power by your Holy Spirit and through your Word to bring you joy, praise, honor, pleasure, happiness, and glory! AMEN!

“Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.” Revelation 4:11 (KJV) [I used the KJV version here because of the words “for thy pleasure”. Not all versions use the word “pleasure”.
