Put Your Blinders On!

I am not a horse expert, but my understanding of the purpose of blinders used on horses is to keep the horses from looking anywhere other than forward so they are not distracted or deterred from bringing pleasure to and doing the best work possible for the people entrusted with them and whose tender loving care Lord willing they are under.

Friend, we who follow the Lord Jesus Christ need to be very careful to stay focused on the Lord, the Bible, and His will for us going forward. We are to stay focused on Him and to lovingly, humbly, blessedly walk down the path He sets before us. We are to bring Him love, pleasure, honor, praise, adoration, obedience, and glory and to do the best job possible in serving Him with our hearts on fire with love for Him!

Just as a well-loved and well-cared for horse can find great pleasure, joy, and contentment in relation to and in fellowship with his or her master and as a result of staying focused and doing a really good job, so can we who believe in Jesus Christ as Lord find great pleasure, joy, and contentment when we stay focused on the Lord and His will for us in relation to and in fellowship with Him and as a result of doing a really good job in loving and serving Him!

I am reminded of Joshua in the Old Testament being told not to look to the right or left but instead to meditate on God’s Word. This way, he would prosper. I am also reminded of the apostle Paul writing of forgetting what is behind him and pressing on as the Lord led him forth. I am reminded also of the Bible being a lamp and light that illuminates our path going forward.

Friend, let’s be careful with where we place our focus and where we give our attention. The Lord God almighty is to be number one in our hearts and lives, and it is for Him we are to live and it is His Holy Spirit whom we are to follow as He through His Word leads us forth!

Father, help us to focus on you and your Word. To quote the psalmist, “lead…[us]in your way everlasting.” Thank you, oh Lord, AMEN!

“Let your eyes look straight ahead, And your eyelids look right before you. Ponder the path of your feet, And let all your ways be established. Do not turn to the right or the left; Remove your foot from evil.” Proverbs 4:25-27

“Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go.” Joshua 1:7

“Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:13-14

“Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.” Psalms 119:105

“And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.” Psalms 139:24

“”Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.” Matthew 7:13-14
