Repenting for Un-thankfulness

I used to think repenting means we simply say sorry to God and ask for His forgiveness. Then we feel good because He forgives us. Then we go back to the wrong we were doing because we can’t help it of course or at least I couldn’t anyway. Then we ask Him to forgive us again. An endless circle of saying sorry and returning over and again to the very same sin we should have left behind.

Going by this, when it comes to lacking Thanksgiving, shouldn’t we just have to tell God sorry for being unthankful, get His forgiveness, maybe try being thankful a little bit, and then obviously resort right back to lacking Thanksgiving? This is not how Jesus’ followers are to live. We are to learn in the strength of Christ for the glory of Christ to leave sin behind. And so it is un-thankfulness should truly become a thing of the past. And more and more, we should be resolved that our hearts, words, and lives shine with ongoing Thanksgiving. I’m working on this.
