A beautiful friend of mine shared an experience she had concerning something with which she struggles. She started by telling me about a particular sin with which she is especially vulnerable. Then she told me about a time she was headed right for a fall into that sin when instead of falling she turned away from the sin, prayed to the Lord, and had victory over the sin that day. She further shared how the Lord blessed her with the final outcome of the experience she had. Know why I thanked her?
Because I struggle with the same sin, have desperately desired to have victory over it, and found hope in her testimony. I found hope because I saw how she turned from the sin to God, how He delivered her from the temptation, and how He blessed her at the end. And I thanked her because we humans in our pride tend to not want to share with others our struggles, don’t you think? She humbled herself and opened her heart to me.
Friend, when we share our struggles, when we share our victories, and most importantly, when we share how the Lord heals us, saves us, rescues us, sets us free, makes us whole, protects us, delivers us, teaches us, chastens us, corrects us, leads us to repentance, etc., others see the love, power, mercy, grace, strength, and glory of the Lord – and can find hope in Him, inspiration, and encouragement for their own lives.
Let us humble ourselves before God and others and as He leads us share our struggles and victories with others always remembering to give glory to the Lord. Let us love the Lord, love others, pray for others, help and support others, and encourage others all for the glory of Christ! And let us receive the same from them that we might all grow together in the image of and for the glory of God almighty, yes! Hallelujah, yes!
Father, it can be pretty hard to tell others people about our struggles. Especially about our sin. But Father, I believe there is such good in it for two reasons. First, people can love us, pray for us, encourage and help us. Second, dear Lord, people can learn of your love, grace, mercy, and of how you rescue and free us when we surrender ourselves to you. Yes, you can be glorified when we share our testimonies. Please Father give us all the courage and boldness and strength and humility to share with others whenever you desire both our struggles and victories. And please Lord don’t let us take any glory for ourselves. You’re the one who deserves ALL the glory, Lord, AMEN!
