Stress Is No Excuse

I have been prone to getting stressed out for as long as I can remember. In my elementary school yearbook was one of my most frequent sayings. “I am so stressed out!” Joking aside, this comes with a very serious message:

Stress is NEVER an excuse to sin!

For years, I used my life circumstances and stress and how I felt as an excuse to sin against God and to hurt others with my attitude, words, and actions.

When I feel stressed out, I can easily fall into moaning, groaning, whining, complaining, anxiety, fear, worry, doubt, negativity, self-pity, irritability, bitterness, envy, anger, losing my temper, impatience, and being rude and mean etc. to people. This is ALL sin!

I figured when I am under loads of stress which for me is almost continually that I have an excuse and the right and can justify grieving God and hurting people with my attitude, words, and actions.

The Lord Jesus Christ tells us in the Bible His greatest commands are to love the Lord with all our hearts and to love each other. Sinning in response to stress holds us back from loving God and loving others as we are called to do.

Feeling stressed out? Pray! Cry out to God! Read the Bible! Seek God’s forgiveness for your sins! Apologize to anyone you have hurt! Seek love, encouragement, prayer, and support from people who love and follow Jesus! Surrender yourself totally to Jesus! And trust God to bring you through the stress without the need to sin your way through! Amen!

“…Hear my cry, O God; Attend to my prayer. From the end of the earth I will cry to You, When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For You have been a shelter for me, A strong tower from the enemy. I will abide in Your tabernacle forever; I will trust in the shelter of Your wings…” Psalms 61:1-4 NKJV
