That Sickening Thought

“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.” Phil. 4:8……………

“He who has clean hands and a pure heart,
Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol,
Nor sworn deceitfully.
He shall receive blessing from the Lord,…” Psalm 24:4-5………….

“Keep your heart with all diligence,
For out of it spring the issues of life.” Proverbs 4:23……………

“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” James 4:8……………..

“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,” 2 Cor. 10:4-5………………

I was minding my own business, going about my usual morning get-the-dogs-ready-for-a-new-day stuff, for the umpteenth time as I’d done it for years, so daydreaming was par for the course when unfortunately I’m not careful and let my mind wander, sometimes too far, sometimes way too far, when suddenly a sickening thought popped into my mind. You might not have thought it was sickening, but rest assured, it was sickening. It was a prideful thought, and I despise prideful thoughts as I know they are abominable in the Lord’s eyes. I knew the thought would be dishonoring to God because pride always is, and I knew what to do with it. Immediately.

  1. I identified it as a wrong thought.
  2. I knew I needed to get rid of it.
  3. I got rid of it.

I wish I could say I do this all the time, but the truth is I don’t. The truth is I need to. The truth is we ALL need to. Why? The Lord tells us to guard our hearts. He also tells us what’s in our hearts comes out of our mouths (Luke 6:45). He also tells us He knows our every thought (Psalm 139:2). He also tells us to take our thoughts captive. He also tells us it’s not what comes into us that’s the problem and what defiles us but that what defiles us is what comes out of our mouths (Mt. 15:11). He also tells us to purify our hearts. He also tells us to think about Him and good stuff.
Could the Lord make it any more clear than He does in His Word? No! So what should we do? We need to GET THE GARBAGE OUT OF OUR HEARTS, OUT OF OUR MINDS, so we are pleasing and honoring to the Lord in reverence to Him!
The Lord created us to love and glorify Him forever and to love others, and we MUST keep our hearts pure for the Lord! That means when filthy, ugly, dirty, sickening, sinful, selfish, self-centered, wrongful, despicable, abominable, impure, dishonoring, etc. thoughts come into our minds, we MUST identify them as such and GET RID OF THEM.
Why? FOR THE LORD! And, if the truth be known, not only will we honor the Lord which is absolutely undoubtedly the reason to purify our hearts and minds, but we will also feel better when we go through our everyday lives with pure hearts and pure minds that are pleasing and bring honor and glory to God almighty!
Purify your mind, friend! For God’s sake! Amen!
