The Cookie Jar

Kids stuff their little hands in the cookie jar, grab a few cookies when Mom isn’t looking, rush out of the kitchen, leave a trail of crumbs behind, and convince themselves Mom won’t know what they’ve done. But of course Mom knows. She’s Mom. She doesn’t even need to see the crumbs on the counter nor the crumbs on the child’s face nor notice the begging for milk to wash it down let alone the fewer amount of cookies in the jar. She’s Mom. She just knows. In fact, Mom probably knows even before it happens. Each and every time for that matter. Who does the kid think he or she is fooling when he or she goes to steal more cookies? But this message isn’t about kids, cookies, and Mom. It’s about you and me, this world, sin, and God almighty.

God knows our every sin right down to our every thought before, during, and after the fact. And stealing cookies might have an element of humor, good nature, and fun to the yummy ordeal, but sinning against God comes with dire consequences. We are fooling ourselves if we think a single sin whether in our hearts, thoughts, words, or actions is not seen by God and that we will not be held accountable.

What must we do? Humble ourselves, turn from our sins, believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and in His death and resurrection, turn our lives over to God and His ways, continue to repent as needed as we journey through this life, and strive to live in a manner pleasing and honoring to the Lord God almighty, AMEN!

“For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.” 2 Corinthians 5:10

“Direct my steps by Your word, And let no iniquity have dominion over me.” Psalm 119:133
