The Wrong Directions
“There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” Proverbs 16:25
Ever stopped to get directions only to find the directions somebody gave you were totally wrong? Land in the wrong place? Believe all along the way of following the directions you were headed in the right direction – until you arrived in the wrong place? Convinced the directions were right, eh? Until you landed in the wrong location – maybe even a dead end.
Lots of us are following wrong directions, but convinced we’re headed the right way. We got directions from someone, or lots of people, who were dead wrong. Or we tried to figure out our own directions. Perhaps we’ve been too afraid, or proud, to stop and get the right directions. No matter the reason, we’re headed the wrong way – on the highway to a dead end, not to mention hell if we don’t turn the right way while we still can.
Do you know how to get to heaven? Ever really considered how to get there? Who gave you the directions? Are you sure they gave you the right directions? Have you been too afraid to ask somebody how? Think you’re headed the right way? Let me tell you something before it’s too late to turn and change direction. Synagogue won’t get you there. Church won’t get you there. Bible study won’t get you there. Reading the Bible won’t get you there. Good works won’t get you there. Trying to be perfect won’t get you there. Good deeds won’t get you there. Seminary won’t get you there. Celebrating the holidays won’t get you there. Praying won’t get you there. Loving people won’t get you there. Talking to God, or about Him, won’t get you there. Believing intellectually in Jesus as Lord won’t get you there. In fact, lots of people doing any or all of this are headed straight to hell.
How to get to heaven? Repent of your sins. Believe Christ died on the cross to pay the penalty for your sins and that God raised Him from the dead. REAL repentance and REAL faith are followed by REAL action – a life committed to turning away from the ways of this world and dedicating oneself to following Christ and the ways of the Lord as the Bible teaches.
If you’re headed the wrong way, turn now. Don’t wait until it’s too late. It’s one thing to drive your car and land at the wrong destination. It’s another thing altogether to land in hell forever.
