Think God Can’t Use You?
“For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.” 2 Cor. 4:6-7
“But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence. 1 Corinthians 1:27-29 (underlining added)
From men on death row to strangers on the streets, from addicts carrying weapons to abused women in tears, from people fresh out of decades in prison to people high on crack and only God knows what, from people hearing voices and speaking gibberish to people living in cars and people running from the law, to random rich people in supermarkets to broken people sitting on curbs paralyzed by their brokenness, from the disabled to what society calls the deranged, from happy healthy people on beach vacations to wealthy people climbing corporate ladders lost in false religion, to paralyzed dogs and dogs without eyes, missing legs, severely disabled, with cancer, dying, with one disease or another, crashing into each other, in love, because with all their disabilities they can’t help running into each other as they walk by faith they will get where they need to go, what was God thinking when He called someone so shy and scared as a child I didn’t want to walk down an aisle to pick up an award because people would see me and as an adult so lost and broken and so self-centered and sin-ridden for decades I couldn’t find my way out of darkness – to devote my life 24-7 to Him and to ministering to a world in dire need?
In the world’s eyes, I am the worst, least likely, most far-fetched, ridiculous, weak, absurd, foolish candidate to be called to live a life sold out to God with the little ministry He has given me to proclaim Christ to the world.
Why does God choose people who are losers in the world’s eyes to bring Him glory? Why does He choose foolish earthen vessels? So HE gets ALL THE GLORY. So HIS Spirit who indwells HIS earthen vessels pours through in a mighty river of HIS love, Truth of His Word, power, grace, mercy, forgiveness, peace, hope, etc. into all the world around. So HIS Son Jesus Christ is ALIVE in His followers and SHINES forth by HIS indwelling Spirit so that ALL GLORY goes to GOD!
Don’t think God can’t use you. It’s not about you. It’s about HIM! To God be ALL GLORY!
