This Is Lust!

0

I believe many of us tend to think of lust as sexual lust and all that goes with it that is sin against God that needs to be gotten rid of.

Friend, lust is desire. Any desire. And any desire and that which goes with it that goes against the Lord Jesus Christ and God’s will for us is sin against Him and must be repented of.

Ungodly, unholy, unrighteous lust may even be desire that has been taken to an extreme. In other words, the desire itself may be alright in God’s eyes. But we may have such an exceeding desire that we want more of something or someone than God has ordained for us to have.

Perhaps you lust after tons of chocolate and can’t stop eating it to the point you are obese and have a heart condition. Perhaps you lust for getting drunk and high on drugs. Perhaps you lust for riches to the point you spend your whole life trying to make money so you can live a life of pure luxury with no regard to God and His will for your life. Perhaps you lust for love, attention, and approval, affirmation, and validation to the point you are continually seeking all this from others and have no regard for Jesus and loving Him and loving others.

Friend, there is healthy and godly and righteous desire. And there is lust for what and whom God does not desire for us to have at least in the way and to the degree we are desirous.

I encourage you to go before the Lord in prayer and ask Him to show you and help you let go of any lust that displeases and dishonors Him and goes against His desire for you and your life. Then in obedience to God let it go. Need help and strength to do so? Ask Him for all you need to let any and all ungodly lust go! Amen!

I so hope you will read through the following Bible verses to be encouraged, strengthened, and inspired to leave any ungodly lusts behind and do what is right in the eyes of the Lord! Hallelujah, Amen!

“as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” 2 Peter 1:3-4 NKJV

“But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.” James 1:14-15 NKJV (In the King James version of the Bible, the word “lust” is used instead of “desire”.

“I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.” Galatians 5:16-17 NKJV

“Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members? You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.” James 4:1-3 NKJV
