“I did it because they did it,” I thought to myself.
Did what? Want to know? Okay, I’ll tell you. For years, when I wrote my devotionals, I made sure they all had a scripture. And the verse had to be at the top of my writing. Why? Because the Lord has placed this on my heart? Well, honestly, no. Simply because that’s what all other devotional writers seemed to do.
Friend, this is NOT a good reason to do something. We were not created to follow the world. We were created to follow the Lord. If we do something others do because that’s the Lord’s will for us, that’s great. But it may or may not be His will. He may have wanted me to have scriptures only in some of my devotionals. Maybe at the end of them. Maybe in the middle. Maybe varied. Only He knew. But I don’t recall ever seeking Him about this. I had simply looked to others to figure it all out.
Day by day now, I’m learning to seek the Lord. And His will. In all things. Will you join me? In seeking Him? And following Him? Regardless of what others do or don’t do? Oh, please do! Let’s seek the Lord, let’s seek and follow Jesus! In all things. Amen!
“Seek the Lord and His strength;
Seek His face evermore!” Psalm 105:4
