Hearing Voices, Sorry God

“I’m sorry about my flesh being so loud,” I told the Lord. “I’m sorry for following it.”

I was compelled to pray this as it came onto my heart how often through the years I have caved in and bowed down to the loud voice of my flesh. Of my humanness. Of myself. My self. When I have failed to die to self as we are called to do and to live for Him.

A few minutes later, the rest of my prayer was this. “Help me to follow not my flesh. Not this world. Not the devil. Help me to follow you Jesus. No matter how loud my flesh is, the world is, the devil is. No matter how quiet your voice. May I follow YOUR VOICE Lord Jesus, now and forever. Amen.”

What if we all prayed and lived this way day in and day out? Our lives would be so different, wouldn’t they? And, oh, how different this world would be! We can’t make the whole world do this, but you and I sure can take responsibility for our own hearts and lives. And, whether we pray this once or often or never, we can choose to live this way. To watch out for the voices we hear. And to do our best to follow the voice of Jesus. Of His Holy Spirit who inhabits His followers.

Sometimes our flesh screams and screams, “Me, me, me. Do this. Do that. This will make me happy. This will make me feel good. Who cares what God has to do say about it. Forget that Bible. I want to live for me!” Oh, how loud the flesh can be!

Sorry, Father, for all the times we who set out to follow you get off course because we have listened to and followed our flesh instead. Teach us, dear Lord, to be faithful and humble and honoring in FOLLOWING YOU! AMEN!

“Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.” Luke 9:23

“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.” Romans 8:14
