“Don’t take what I am saying to you as condemnation,” the Holy Spirit of God said one day. “Take it as chastisement. I am perfecting my ways in you.”
Yes, I regularly hear from the Lord word by word. It comes with loving and following Him with all my heart, reading and living by His Word day by day, and seeking His face for years, taking alone time with Him each and every day, and learning to listen, to hear, and to obey.
What was the Lord telling me that day? That He was NOT condemning me. He was CHASTISING me in His LOVE for me. Why? To refine me in teaching me His ways. I am not a finished work. I am a work in progress. HIS work in progress. And the Lord finishes what He starts.
Whatever I was doing wrong that day the Lord needed to correct in growing me in His image. And He was reminding me that chastisement is borne of LOVE. HIS LOVE.
It can hurt and be hard on the flesh when the Lord corrects us, but we need to remember HIS LOVE when He does this. His Word makes abundantly clear that we who are His committed followers are not under His condemnation. And we should be THANKFUL for His loving – albeit tough – chastisement as He conforms us day by day to His glorious self.
Father, dear Father, as much as it hurts and as hard as it is when you correct me, I THANK YOU for doing so. For showing me your love in this way. For teaching me your ways. For not giving up on me but continuing to correct me and to grow me in your image. Lord, please reach the hearts of those reading this message and help them know the heights and depths of your love for them including when you chastise them. Please help them not to mistake chastisement for condemnation. If there is someone reading this who does not yet believe in you as Lord and is under the condemnation that comes in a life lived without you, please Father draw them now to yourself, bring them into your fold, have mercy on them and save them, lead them into your Kingdom, and teach them what it means to be an adopted child of yours. Help us all to see your chastisement as a blessing, dear Lord. Thank you, blessed Father, AMEN!

“My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord,
Nor detest His correction;
For whom the Lord loves He corrects,
Just as a father the son in whom he delights.” Proverbs 3:11-12
“being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;” Philippians 1:6
