“Now Jericho was securely shut up because of the children of Israel; none went out, and none came in. And the Lord said to Joshua: “See! I have given Jericho into your hand, its king, and the mighty men of valor. You shall march around the city, all you men of war; you shall go all around the city once. This you shall do six days. And seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark. But the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets. It shall come to pass, when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, that all the people shall shout with a great shout; then the wall of the city will fall down flat. And the people shall go up every man straight before him.” Then Joshua the son of Nun called the priests and said to them, “Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark of the Lord.”” Joshua 6:1-6…………….
Have you ever considered when looking at the whole Bible in its entirety, at the entire picture of the Bible, of the Bible from start to finish, and at all the leaders, the successful ones and the ones that were not, especially at the ones who had such great successes in leading large groups of people, even entire nations of people, and at Jesus, Jesus the Christ, the Lord Jesus Christ, what stands out above absolutely everything else when it comes to superior leadership? To incredible success? To the kind of leadership honored by God, and called to by God, God almighty? One morning the Spirit of God put this very subject on my mind, and this is what He showed me.
The leaders whose success was so remarkable we still think about and talk about and preach about them today all had this in common. INSTEAD OF SIMPLY LEADING THE PEOPLE IN THEIR OWN STRENGTH BY THEIR OWN FLESH WITH THEIR OWN IDEAS OR EVEN THE WORLD’S IDEAS AND PLANS AND AGENDAS AND FORMULAS, they did this.
THEY LOOKED TO THE LORD FOR DIRECTIONS, THEY SOUGHT THE LORD, THEY WAITED ON THE LORD, THEY HEARD THE LORD, THEY KNEW THE LORD WAS SPEAKING TO THEM, THEY HONORED THE LORD, THEY GLORIFIED THE LORD, THEY BOWED DOWN TO THE LORD, THEY SUBMITTED TO THE LORD, THEY OBEYED THE LORD, THEY LED THE PEOPLE EVEN AS THEY SUBMITTED TO THE LORD LEADING THEM, and THEIR LEADERSHIP OVER OTHERS WAS GOVERNED BY GOD’S LEADERSHIP OF THEM, and THEIR YIELDEDNESS TO GOD, and THE DIRECTIONS AND WISDOM THEY GAVE THOSE THEY LED CAME FROM GOD WHO GAVE DIRECTIONS AND WISDOM TO THEM TO LEAD THE PEOPLE.
Over and again in the Bible, the Lord shows us how He directed the leaders who directed the people. He was so clear in His directions, in His leadership over the leaders leading others, that He gave them the very words to speak to those they led, He gave them the wisdom and directions they needed to lead others, and He gave them the timing to put into play and practice what He told the leaders to do in leading others.
The example in the scriptures above is only one of numerous examples in the Bible of someone leading the people as he submits himself to the leadership of God. Do you see the hierarchy, friend? A good and successful leader, a leader honored by God, is one who loves and honors and obeys God above anything and everyone else and who leads others AS HE IS LED BY GOD, and who leads the people GOD PUTS IN HIS CARE, not those he or she leads because he takes leadership and people into his or her own hands, but because the Lord has entrusted him or her with people to lead, all under the ultimate leadership of the Lord Jesus Christ!
If you are in a position of leading others, whether in a job, a church, a ministry, a family, a sports team, absolutely whatever, LOOK TO THE LORD AND THE BIBLE for how to lead – and lead as Jesus Christ Himself led. Under the ultimate loving, merciful, glorious, awesome, amazing leadership of God almighty through Christ Jesus who is Lord forever and ever and ever, Amen!
