“From the end of the earth I will cry to You,
When my heart is overwhelmed;
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.” Psalm 61:2
Wherever I am, wherever you are, when we place our trust in Jesus Christ as forever Lord, there is an answer when we feel overwhelmed. When our hearts feel like we just can’t take what we’re facing. Like we can’t go on another minute dealing with whatever we’re dealing with.
The answer has a name. A name above all other names. Above every person, place, or thing on this earth, ourselves included. The answer is the highest name that ever was, is, and ever will be. The Lord Jesus Christ. And what can we do? We can cry out to the Lord.
And what will He do? He will answer. And what can we cry out? Anything on our hearts, yes. And what does the psalmist in these verses cry out? That God would lead Him to the rock. The rock that is not only higher than he is, but the rock that is higher than anything or anyone on this earth – our challenges included. What is the rock? Better yet, who is the rock? Is the rock not the Lord Jesus Christ?
And when our hearts are overwhelmed, and we feel like how can we possibly make it through another moment, what better place to go than to the rock? To Jesus! Higher and greater and more wonderful than anything or anyone in the universe.
Lord God, in Jesus’ name, lead us, lead us Lord, lead us to the rock! When we’re overwhelmed, yes, Father, and even when we’re not! Lead us to yourself! Thank you, Lord! Thank you that you are the rock! Draw us to yourself, oh Lord! Draw us to the rock! AMEN!
