365 BLESSINGS is a devotional book the Lord has led me to publish piece by piece even as I’m writing it rather than waiting until it’s in print to share it. Please join me & be blessed as I write my latest book…!
“Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me!
For my soul trusts in You;
And in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge,
Until these calamities have passed by.” Psalm 57:1
Crying out for God’s mercy. Placing his trust in God. Taking refuge in the shadow of God’s wings. Staying there until the calamities, or troubles, pass by. The psalmist is so transparent. So honest. So real. So raw. So revealing to us of his journey with the Lord. Do you see how he makes a choice? A decision? And takes an action?
He doesn’t just talk about God. He doesn’t just pray to God. He doesn’t just believe in God. He has a relationship with God. And an intimate one at that. So very, very close. And he knows where to put his trust when troubles and trials arise. In God almighty. I have read these words many, many times. And never realized until now even as I write this the magnitude of God’s so-called wings. Of his shelter. Of his refuge. So great, so almighty, so powerful, with such breadth, that they have a shadow.
I can’t even fathom how big that shadow is, can you? I can only imagine. My friend, calamities, troubles, trials, tribulations, hardships, challenges, etc. come in this life. For some of us, they come seldomnly. For others of us, periodically. For some, often. For some, it seems, continually. No matter how often, no matter the nature of them, no matter how big or how small or somewhere in between, our trials can put us in the position of feeling needy, of feeling desperate, of feeling like we may never get by – or never get through. And like we’ll never overcome.
May we cry out to God for mercy. May we place our souls in God’s hands. May we trust in Him. May we seek the shelter of the shadow of His wings. And rest there, and breathe there, and recuperate there, and find safety there, and spend time with God there, and wait until our calamities pass by. Oh, Father, that you would love us so much the very shadow of your wings would be a refuge for us! That you would love us so much you desire us to come into your refuge! That you love us so much you don’t want us to go through our trials alone.
You want us to seek shelter in you. You want us with you. You desire us to be in your fellowship. In your presence. Through our trials. And through our good times too. You want us in fellowship with you. You sent Jesus to the cross to die and be raised from the dead so those of us who turn from our sins and believe in you as Lord, genuinely turning to you and your ways henceforth, receive your mercy and are given communion with you forevermore! Be with us Lord, and us with you, through all our times on this earth – and forever and ever, AMEN!
