A Beautiful Blessing
“I commend to you Phoebe our sister, who is a servant of the church in Cenchrea, that you may receive her in the Lord in a manner worthy of the saints, and assist her in whatever business she has need of you; for indeed she has been a helper of many and of myself also.
Greet Priscilla and Aquila, my fellow workers in Christ Jesus, who risked their own necks for my life, to whom not only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles.” Romans 16:1-4
“You are a beautiful blessing!” I declared emphatically to my friend, sister-in-the-Lord, and co-laborer in Christ. Yes, she’s all three. Friend. Sister through Christ. And co-worker in my labor of love for Jesus through this ministry.
Know what stands out to me over and again in the letters toward the end of the Bible? It’s something for years I didn’t even notice. Until I needed to see, I suppose. How many mentions there are of thanksgiving for the co-laborers of God’s servants. No matter how small they may have considered their work for Christ, their work was significant first and foremost to the Lord. And also to those with whom they labored for Jesus.
I believe there are some lessons in this for you and me. First, we all need to be serving Jesus. Then, we aren’t to serve Him alone. We have others to serve the Lord alongside us. We who follow Jesus are all one Body of Christ. Also, no job for Jesus is insignificant. All of our work is to be one worldwide labor of love for the Lord. And, we should be thankful to the Lord for those who labor with us. And encourage them in their work for the Lord the same way we would desire to be encouraged.
I encourage you to go before the Lord to see if you’re laboring for Him in the way He desires, where He desires, and with whom He desires. And be thankful for those He sends to labor for Him alongside you!
