Trying to Get Around God’s Will

Early in the morning. Lying in bed. A great night’s sleep, such a rarity. So drowsy. Drifting. Perhaps back to sleep. But stopped by some thoughts. About something I had sensed for some time God wanted me to do in my ministry work. But I felt maxed out as it was. I felt I didn’t need a single other thing to do. I had the perfect solution.

I would get around what I sensed was His will. I would tiptoe around it and leave it behind. Simply get on with my life. God wouldn’t notice, right? Wouldn’t make a difference to Him, right? Wouldn’t matter, right? After all, I would do His will in other areas of my life. Just not that one. Certainly it was okay to pick and choose what I wanted to do concerning God’s will – and what I wanted to walk around, right? Wrong!

Ever tried to get around God’s will? Tried to convince yourself God hadn’t spoken to your heart about something He wanted you to do? Or come up with a zillion excuses? Justified why you were not going to fulfill His will for you? Walk ever so quietly around it then move on with your life and how you wanted to live it?

Friend, it is never wise when we do this. It is foolish. It is dangerous. It is wrong. It is sin. It is ungodly, unholy, and unrighteous when we try to get around God’s will. This is disobedience. This is rebellion. This we must not do. And if we already have, we need to repent and turn back to Him. To pray and seek His face. To seek His will. And to do whatever He tells us to do.

Jesus Christ is Lord. Jesus is God. Let us humble ourselves and live in obedience to Him! Amen!

“Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.” Luke 9:23-24 NKJV (bold and underlining added)
