See the title of this devotional? Two Men & God’s Glory. Please note the first two words. Two what? MEN! Next? God’s what? GLORY! Whose GLORY! The glory of GOD. Note the difference. Men. God. Where does the glory belong always? WITH GOD! Everything good in this world is because of God. And God does not share His glory with others. The glory is all HIS. And we need to make sure we are giving GLORY TO GOD not to ourselves and not to others!
So what about these two men? Which men? Two men from long ago. Moses whom the Lord used to deliver the Israelites out of bondage in Egypt. And his father-in-law Jethro. Please find below a very interesting conversation they had. Know what they did? Exactly what we are supposed to do!
Moses told his father-in-law WHAT THE LORD HAD DONE THROUGH HIM to deal with Pharaoh who had kept the Israelites in bondage. Moses did not say pridefully, “Look what an awesome job I did!” Oh, sure, he worked exceedingly hard for a long time in tough circumstances with very challenging people in obedience to God. But he didn’t take God’s glory. He gave the GLORY TO GOD! How did Jethro respond? He BLESSED THE LORD! He GAVE GLORY TO GOD! Hallelujah! They both did what we need to do. GIVE GOD THE GLORY!
Friend, let us be careful to take every opportunity we can to GIVE GOD THE GLORY! And not to take it for ourselves or give it to our fellow humans. TO GOD BE ALL THE GLORY! EVERY SINGLE OUNCE OF GLORY TO THE LORD! AMEN!
Lord, we are to love and glorify YOU! Remind us not to take your glory! Help us to humble ourselves and not to be prideful. You are glorious. You deserve all the glory for everything good most especially yourself! You are the greatest and best of all, and praising, honoring, adoring, and worshiping and glorifying you forever still won’t be enough compared with all the glory you deserve, dear Father! Forgive us for all the times we have been prideful and stolen what is yours. You will not share your glory. Help us as we go forth to glorify you day in and day out, oh Lord, AMEN!
“And Moses told his father-in-law all that the LORD had done to Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israel’s sake, all the hardship that had come upon them on the way, and how the LORD had delivered them. Then Jethro rejoiced for all the good which the LORD had done for Israel, whom He had delivered out of the hand of the Egyptians. And Jethro said, “Blessed be the LORD, who has delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians and out of the hand of Pharaoh, and who has delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians.” Exodus 18:8-10
