When Nobody Understands You

Ever felt like nobody understands you? Feeling that way right now? Like even the people closest to you don’t understand how you feel, what you are going through, how hard your struggles are, your dreams, what you are like, what you believe in, etc.? Feeling alone because of this? Even when you are surrounded by people? Are you hurting because of this? Feeling forlorn? Forsaken? Rejected? Different? Isolated? Raw? Vulnerable? Like the world just doesn’t “get” you? Like even your best friend, spouse, parents, children, counselor, pastor, boss, etc. don’t seem to understand you as a person?

I have felt like nobody understands me countless times in my life. Even as I write this, I absolutely feel like nobody understands exactly what I am going through right now and how indescribably painful deep in my heart it is. But something has dramatically changed in my life.

For decades, when I felt this way, I would become terribly depressed, feel indescribably alone and lonely, bitter, self-pitying, like giving up on life, hurt, resentful, angry, etc. But as I am writing this, I do NOT feel depressed. I do NOT feel alone and lonely. I do NOT feel bitter, self-pitying, like giving up on life, hurt, resentful, angry, etc. I FEEL LOVED, UNDERSTOOD, CARED FOR, COMFORTED, TAKEN CARE OF, AND PROVIDED FOR.

Why the change?

Because I finally truly believe and understand and accept and rejoice in the truth that THE LORD GOD ALMIGHTY LOVES ME! JESUS CHRIST UNDERSTANDS ME! GOD IS WITH ME! GOD HAS ALL THE UNDERSTANDING, LOVE, GRACE, MERCY, PEACE, HEALING, HOPE, JOY, KINDNESS, TENDERNESS, FELLOWSHIP, FRIENDSHIP, COUNSEL, COMFORT, PROVISION, ETC. I NEED! Some of this He provides directly, and some of it He provides through others. But HE IS THE SOURCE OF IT ALL!

So long as I turn to Him, so long as I open my heart to Him, so long as I pour out my heart to Him, so long as I go to Him, pray to Him, seek Him, read the Bible, believe in Jesus, follow Jesus, spend time with God, praise and worship Him, live in obedience to Him, cry out to Him, come to Him, draw near to Him, reach out to Him, and am filled with and led by His Holy Spirit, I have all I need IN HIM, THROUGH HIM, and FROM HIM!

The key is my HOPE AND EXPECTATION ARE IN THE LORD!

Friend, this is not just true for me. It is true for us all. He is the one we need and to whom we should turn! Even when it seems the whole world doesn’t understand us, or is not showing up for us the way we would want, or does not know how to help us, or is too busy or distracted, etc., WHEN WE BELIEVE IN AND FOLLOW THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, WE HAVE GOD WITH US! HALLELUJAH!

TURN, TURN, TURN TO THE LORD! CRY OUT TO GOD! POUR OUT YOUR HEART TO JESUS! BRING YOUR TEARS TO HIM! BRING YOUR THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS TO HIM! DRAW NEAR TO THE LORD! NOW AND FOREVERMORE! AMEN!

p.s. Please note God blesses us with love, support, care, encouragement, prayer, etc. from His followers! We should not isolate and turn away from people because they are not perfect in loving and understanding and helping us! We are all imperfect! We should absolutely have loving relationships with people and reach out to them when we are in need and be there for them when they are in need. But our ultimate trust, hope, and expectation should be IN THE LORD! We should open wide our hearts and cry out to God and receive all He has for us and praise Him for His lovingkindness and goodness, HALLELUJAH!

“For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39 NKJV

“My soul, wait silently for God alone, For my expectation is from Him. He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory; The rock of my strength, And my refuge, is in God. Trust in Him at all times, you people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us…” Psalms 62:5-8 NKJV

“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”” Matthew 11:28-30 NKJV

“I would have lost heart, unless I had believed That I would see the goodness of the LORD In the land of the living. Wait on the LORD; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the LORD!” Psalms 27:13-14 NKJV
