Who Is Your Savior?

Who Is Your Savior?

“But where are thy gods that thou hast made thee? let them arise, if they can save thee in the time of thy trouble: for according to the number of thy cities are thy gods, O Judah.” Jeremiah 2:28

“Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God…” Exodus 20:3-5

If we are honest with ourselves, how many of us have in the past, or are right now, turning to gods other than God? Turning to little gods instead of to the one true God in heaven? Turning to false gods instead of to the only real eternal God, Creator of the universe? Turning to idols instead of to the Lord? Turning to this world instead of to Him? Turning to other people instead of to Jesus Christ, Savior of the world? Turning to ourselves and putting our trust in our flesh instead of placing our trust in Christ? Turning to places and things to love and worship them instead of living our every breath to love and worship the Lord? Glorifying the people and stuff of this earth instead of seeking to bring Him glory? Stuck in hard places, challenging circumstances, desperately wanting to overcome our trials, or at the least to make it through them, and finding ourselves running over and again into the arms of gods we have dangerously convinced ourselves will save us from our woes? Or perfectly content in our lives, no trouble or challenge in sight, and still if we’re honest turning to people, places, and things to live by and to live for instead of living by and for Christ?

When God convicted the people of Judah all the gods they worshiped would not be able to save them when trouble came, He was also speaking to ALL OF US! When the day comes God unfurls all His wrath against humanity for all our sins against Him, everyone who is not believing in and following Christ as Lord and Savior will be given a ticket to hell and the lake of fire forever apart from God. Only those believing in and following Jesus will be saved from God’s wrath and headed for heaven forever with God. There is no more important salvation than to be saved from hell by repenting and believing Christ died for us and turning to God and His ways forever, BUT we also need salvation daily from life’s trials. Even Christ followers find ourselves turning to false gods rather than the one true God. We MUST repent daily as God’s Spirit convicts us of turning to anything or anyone other than Him as Lord. Salvation through Christ is ongoing. Daily we need to be saved from this world’s wickedness as God by His Spirit through His Word teaches us His ways and conforms us to Christ in preparation for eternity with Him.

   Is He speaking to you?
