You may not be able to relate to the details of this part of my personal story, but I promise you the underlying message contained within is for absolutely EVERYONE!
After decades of battling a life-threatening eating disorder which when coupled with a digestive issue in recent years at about 5 foot 5 inches I dropped down to 94 pounds, I was terrified.
No matter how many times God over the years chastened me and called me to repentance for my sin of destroying the body He gave me with anorexia, and no matter how awful the consequences which included two emergency rooms, 5 weeks of hospitalization in a hospital eating disorders unit, and my body and mind not working properly, and greatly hurting my loved ones, I did not fully surrender myself to God and His will for me until something crucial happened.
I finally came to deeply understand 7 truths in the Bible which are essential for EVERYONE you included no matter your personal story!
Please consider yourself and your own heart and life as you read these truths:
- God commands us to love and serve Him with all our hearts!
- Jesus tells us those who love Him obey Him!
- Sin grieves the Holy Spirit of God!
- Jesus bought His followers with the blood He shed on the cross for us whereby our hearts, lives, and our bodies belong to Him!
- We are to glorify Him with our bodies and spirits!
- We who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ are a temple of the Holy Spirit of God!
- We are to offer our bodies to God as a living sacrifice!
Friend, if in any way, shape, or form you are not taking care of the body God has given you, and have not fully surrendered your heart, body, and whole life to God, you are living in disobedience to God and need to repent of your rebellion and make any and all changes God calls you to make.
Please cry out to God if you need to repent! Please cry out to God to give you the wisdom, direction, guidance, help, support, strength, and any and all resources you need to GLORIFY GOD with your body NOT to grieve God with your body.
Given my long eating disorder history and my ongoing digestive issues, gaining lots of weight is a very big daily challenge but I am committed to do my best to do it. I love the Lord with all my heart and want to honor Him in all that I do. My body belongs to Jesus, and I do not want to grieve God any longer. I want to bring glory to His name in every aspect of my life – including with my body. Sure I hate the awful results of sin and want to feel and be better, but my primary reason to take care of myself now is for the glory of God!
So very much hope in reading this that you will truly cry out to God and yield up all to Him now and forever, AMEN!
Here are some wonderful Bible verses to encourage you as you go forward!
“Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘HEAR, O ISRAEL, THE LORD OUR GOD, THE LORD IS ONE. AND YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, WITH ALL YOUR MIND, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH.’ This is the first commandment.” Mark 12:29-30 NKJV
“But take careful heed to do the commandment and the law which Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, to love the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways, to keep His commandments, to hold fast to Him, and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul.”” Joshua 22: 5 NKJV
“Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.” John 14:23 NKJV
“And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.” Ephesians 4:30 NKJV
“Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NKJV
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Romans 12:1-2 NKJV
