Will this Man Go to Heaven?

0

“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6

“As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one;” Romans 3:10

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23

“The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness, and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” Mt. 13:41-43

“Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” John 3:3-6

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16

“that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9

“Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Acts 2:38

“Oh, I know I’m going to heaven,” a man told me one time. We were talking about my favorite subject in the universe. Jesus.

“How do you know you’re going to heaven?” I asked knowing full well from our conversation thus far where this would lead.

“I’m a good person,” he told me immediately.

He also told me he believed in Jesus. And that he used rosary beads. He said nothing about sin. Nothing about repentance. Nothing about Christ dying on the cross for him. Nothing about seeking God’s forgiveness. Nothing about the Bible. Nothing about living his life devoted to Christ. Nothing about the fruit of genuine faith in Christ not just as Savior but as LORD. Nothing about Christ being Lord of his life. He seemed to think his supposed goodness would get him to heaven.

I tried to tell him the truth. He wasn’t much interested. That the only way to heaven is through Jesus dying on the cross to pay our sin penalty and being raised from the dead. Through faith in Christ as Lord. Through belief in Jesus dying on the cross and being resurrected. Through a life of obedience to Christ. Of living for God. Of living according to God’s ways. That none of us is good enough for God. That we can’t earn God’s love and forgiveness. That Jesus is the only way to everlasting life.

I gave him my Gospel tract, told him to enjoy his meal he was going out to eat, and said goodbye.

I wish I could tell you it’s rare I meet people who don’t want to hear about the Lord Jesus Christ and Jesus being the only way to a forever relationship with God instead of eternity in torment apart from God in hell and the lake of fire. But the reality in my streets ministry work is that I continually meet people with their backs turned against God who have no interest in Him at all or people who call themselves Christians and say they believe in Christ as Lord but are living their lives independent of Jesus not according to His ways but according to the world’s and their own.

I have been in both places. I lived for decades without Christ at all. And I lived a long while calling Jesus Lord but living my life in disobedience to God with the ultimate goal of loving and honoring and living for self rather than loving, honoring, and living for God. God led me to repentance and ever since has been teaching me day by day what life looks like for those who will live in His forever glorious presence. A life devoted not to self, not to this world, not to the devil, but to the Lord Jesus Christ who will reign forevermore!

Are you living your life for the Lord Jesus Christ? Is it time to turn your life entirely over to Him? If you have not yet fully surrendered your life to God and His ways through the Lord Jesus Christ, may now be the time! One day, my friend, it will be too late!

Will the man of whom I have written go to heaven? That’s between Him and Jesus. But this message isn’t about the man with whom I spoke. It’s about you and the Lord Jesus Christ. Where do you stand, friend? When it comes to Christ and eternity, and how you are living, and for whom you are living, and in whom you believe, whether it be Christ as Lord or not, where do you stand?
