We are to day by day put away our wicked, worldly ways and learn to live the holy lives He has called us to live. We are to sacrifice our own wishes, wants, and ways, and to live our lives as He calls us to. Just as martyrs die a physical death in the name of the Lord, we are to die to ourselves, to our selfish ways, to the ways of this world, and live new lives in Christ. How? We renew our minds with the Bible, and God transforms us as we choose to do what He teaches us through His Word rather than live the way the rest of the world chooses to live. The death involved in this sacrifice is the death of our flesh as we make the decision to live according to His Holy Spirit.
If you look in the mirror this very day, do you see someone whose life is a sacrifice for the Lord even as you remain alive?
Rom 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. (underlining added)
