You may love your children beyond measure. You may raise them with values and morals. You may give them the best education possible. You may spend tons of time with them and make certain you share meals together and go on vacations as a family and do everything you have been taught good parents are supposed to do. You may make great sacrifices in raising them. You may be strict about their schoolwork and yet work hard to make sure they have plenty of fun when their homework is done. You may send them to the best summer camps and bring them up with the best of manners. You may work hard at your job to provide abundantly for your children. You may kiss them and hug them and make the yummiest of school lunches for them. But you can do every one of these things and even way more and still miss the #1 priority in raising children which sadly so very many parents in this modern day world are missing right now in child rearing.
The Lord Jesus Christ and the Bible should be at the forefront of your heart and life. Believing in and following the Lord Jesus Christ and making your relationship with the Lord and alone time with Him and the Bible daily should be your very highest priority in life. And your very highest priority in raising your children should be raising them to do the same.
Teach your children about the Lord Jesus Christ, share the Gospel message with them, encourage them to believe in and follow the Lord, read the Bible to them until they are old enough to read it themselves, and teach them the ways of the Lord according to the Bible not the ways of this world.
Teach them to be bold and courageous and to stand their ground in believing in and loving and obeying Jesus as Lord in a world in which so many are turned away from Him. Teach them to tell others about Jesus. Teach them to love Jesus with all their hearts and others as themselves. Model this to them. Seek and follow the Lord as He leads and empowers you in so doing!
May the Lord be your number one love. Never love your children more than you love Jesus. Teach them to love Jesus more than anything or anyone.
This is the right way to raise children. Do not compromise any of this. Do not allow anyone’s criticism, ridicule, rejection, hatred, judgment, or persecution or their refusal to do this to cause you to lay this counsel about raising your children aside. And teach your children to not let anyone’s criticism, ridicule, rejection, hatred, judgment, or persecution or their refusal to do this to cause them to lay aside their love for and steadfast commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ.
Watch what the Lord will do in your heart and life and the hearts and lives of your children as you follow this counsel! Oh, glory be to the Lord! Raise the children the Lord has given you in this manner for the glory of Christ!
God, I am not a parent as you well know. But I know right from the Bible this is the right way to raise children in your eyes. Oh, how challenging this must be in this day and age, dear Father. Please dear God protect and strengthen all parents raising children according to your ways. Please help the children to stand strong in their faith in you and to honor their parents as they raise them the right way. For those children who do not yet believe, bring them to faith in you. Teach the parents to pray for their children, and the children to pray for their parents. And for the children who are believers in you, Lord, who have parents who are not, use the children to pray for and lead the parents to you, oh Lord! And in this case please Father send adults outside the family to offer loving support, prayer, and encouragement to the believing children whose parents don’t yet believe and use those adults Lord to help brings the parents into your forever fold!
Oh, God, families everywhere need you so desperately. Bring to repentance all parents raising their kids the wrong way. Send people who love and follow you to parents to walk alongside them. For all parents with children who have turned their backs on you, give them love, wisdom, comfort, patience, and direction in how to handle what they are going through. And please bring into the parents’ lives strong followers of you, Lord, to help these parents go through the gut-wrenching trials of having unbelieving or backslidden children. Oh, Lord, I could pray on and on. But instead, I will just end with this.
Please, Lord, for everyone who reads this, help them to be the parents and children you want them to be. Help them to be sold out to you and to model to this world how you intended godly parents and children to be, oh Father, oh Lord, oh God, please, oh yes!! Amen!
“”Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one! You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” Deuteronomy 6:4-9
