“I am so happy today. And I don’t have the things that I wanted. But I have Jesus.” The dogs, of course, did not respond. But my heart danced inside, and my smile would be contagious if anyone could see it right now. I have almost nothing of what I ever dreamed of, and I have lost much of what I ever wanted. Most of my life has not turned out thus far as I wanted, as I imagined, or as anyone could have guessed.
But I have a happiness, a deep joy inside, that far surpasses anything that I could have had based on circumstances alone. For my happiness today is not based on anything material, nor is it based on anything I can hold in my hands – not even a single human being.
It is not based on a love relationship, on a zillion dollars, on a great looking resume or a fancy house, on a successful life by the world’s standards, on a new love, on a million awesome friendships, on a dream coming true. It is based on Jesus Christ. And just as no man gave Him to me, no man can take Him away. Everything else is temporal. But Jesus, the love of my life, is forever.
2Co 4:18 KJV “While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.”
