A Warning About Open Doors

0

Just because “doors” of opportunity open in your life doesn’t mean God opened them. Please don’t assume this! Not every opportunity is from God. And we are foolish and in danger if we assume that they are. Please be careful!

I have written on this subject a number of times over the years and am compelled to write on it again. Friend, God “opens doors” in that He does give us opportunities according to His will and His timing and His plans and His purposes for His glory. But the devil also opens doors in that he gives us temptations in his ever striving to fulfill his despicable mission to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). And we ourselves at times open doors God doesn’t want open when we in our pride believe we know what is best and when we in our self-centered flesh apart from God lust after people, places, things, and opportunities to satisfy and please ourselves in ways that don’t line up with the will of God for us. And others open doors that may not be God’s will either because they don’t believe in Him and therefore are not led by Him or because they believe in Him but are not acting in His will.

Do you see? We need to be careful! We need to be wise! We need to be discerning! We need God to give us wisdom and discernment and to lead us, guide us, provide for us, and protect us! Just because we face an opportunity does not mean that opportunity is from God. It may be. It may not be. So what should we do about this business of “open doors”? Of opportunities set before us? This is what we should do.

PRAY. PRAY. PRAY. Seek the Lord! Read the Bible! Trust the Lord will make known His will to us! Seek counsel from followers of the Lord who are strongly grounded in the Bible as the Lord leads us! Wait on the Lord! Act when we are clear from the Lord!

Do you see the common denominator in all this? THE LORD! Jesus Christ is forever Lord! Forever God! Forever King! Forever Savior! Forever master! The Spirit of Christ, the Holy Spirit of God, lives inside His followers. We are to turn from our sins, believe Jesus Christ is Lord and that He died on the cross to atone for our sins, that God raised Him from the dead, turn to God and His ways, receive God’s forgiveness and everlasting life with Him, and DEVOTE OURSELVES WHOLLY TO THE LORD AND TO HIS WILL FOR OUR LIVES.

The doors we walk through, may they be the doors God Himself desires we walk through. May the opportunities we say yes to be the ones God ordains for us and calls us to. May God be glorified, may God may be magnified, may God receive honor and praise all the days of our lives and forevermore as we humble ourselves before Him and love and glorify Him in all matters – “open doors” included! AMEN!

Please note in the following verse the warning we are given to not use our freedom as believers in the Lord Jesus Christ as an “opportunity” to sin.

“For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.” Galatians 5:13

And please note how the devil prowls around looking for opportunities to destroy us.

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” 1 Peter 5:8

And please read how the apostle Paul asked for prayer that God would “open” a “door” to him and his fellow laborers for the Lord to preach.

“Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving; meanwhile praying also for us, that God would open to us a door for the word, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in chains, that I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.” Colossians 4:2-4

Please be encouraged to seek and follow the Lord when it comes to “doors” of opportunity!
