Abominable in God’s Eyes

I don’t hear the word abomination used much in modern day America, but it is a strong and powerful word in the Bible referring to how the Lord views certain sin. A little research online shows various definitions and understandings of the word, but suffice it to say something called abominable is considered to be horrible, horrific, disgusting, sickening, atrocious, deeply disapproved of, etc. Do you want to know one thing that is an abomination in the eyes of the Lord with which I believe we all struggle to one degree or another if we’re honest with ourselves and from which we all must repent when the Holy Spirit of God shows us we have fallen into it?

I have begged the Lord for years over and again to show me the second I fall into it and to help me to be totally rid of it. For at long last, after years of being riddled with it and driven by it, I came by God’s grace to see it and to realize how appalling it is and how very much it needs to be gotten rid of – immediately whenever it crops up in even a single quick thought!

I have even told Him I don’t want to go forward with this ministry with which He has entrusted me with even an ounce of pride. He is abundantly clear in the Bible that this abominable sin is despicable in His eyes. Imagine my surprise when along came a Bible verse I had never noticed before. One that made me yearn even more so to continually purify myself and rid myself of it.

The verse below shows us the Lord considers those “PROUD IN HEART” to be an abomination! Notice the word heart which per Strong’s concordance comes from a Hebrew word also used in the Bible to denote “feelings, will, and intellect”. In other words, when we THINK, FEEL, or ACT with pride, we are an abomination to God! Not just the thoughts. WE ARE! It’s not just pride in our actions that is WRONG! It’s pride right down to our every thought and feeling! Pride in our thoughts is WRONG! It is sickening and repulsive to say the least to almighty God whom we are to fear, revere, and honor! We must repent! Immediately!

Pride, my friend, can be really subtle. Many times the Lord has showed me my thoughts have been prideful when I simply can’t see it for myself.

ALL pride needs to be purged from us as often as the Lord shows us we have even an iota of it in us whether in our thoughts, feelings, words, or actions. May we deeply desire to never be an abomination in the sight of God almighty! Not when it comes to pride, and not when it comes to anything at all!

Father God, purge from us ALL pride! Every single sickening speck of it, from the moment people read this message and from the moment I finish writing it, may you help us to learn to be free from it now and always! Help us to humble ourselves before you continually. Thank you, oh Lord, AMEN!

“Everyone proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD;…” Proverbs 16:5

“But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “GOD RESISTS THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE.”” James 4:6
